Blue Ridge Parkway
Yesterday we drove to Asheville, NC for a trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway to see all of the changing colors and learn a bit of history about the area. The visitors center had a great movie about the making of the parkway and lots of cool, interactive displays. Unfortunately, it was raining and overcast so we only got to go on one 2 mile hike. The trees were beautiful and we were able to identify several different types of leaves thanks to the park hide and seek map. It had great pictures of fall-colored leaves to identify and a great big warning of all the poison ivy on the trail. (My kids are getting really good at pointing out poison ivy!). Despite the gloomy weather and our whole family packed into two double beds last night...it was a lot of fun. We will definitely be visiting earlier in the year next year when the weather is better. I'll post pics when I've recovered from the after-fieldtrip mess.
